Is there a bonus on top of the 35k? If not, why is everyone so desperate to work for them when they can earn more elsewhere?

BA salaries at McKinsey certainly hasn't risen in line with the rise in other industries (like accounting and ibanking). However, you first job out of undergrad shouldn't really be about money. it should be about paving the way for your career. McKinsey opens so many doors that two years down the road, when you complete your BA program, you will likely have the choice to attend at least one MBA program within the top 5 US MBA programs and Insead/LBS.

Furthermore, whether you decide to do your MBA or not. There will be many companies clamoring to bring you into the organization.

On the experiences front, you are working with the very best of people. That in itself is worth something.
