Hi, can anyone tell me which management consultancies have a strong focus on airlines?

Tony Restell (Top-Consultant)

As an ex-Aviation consultant myself, I can tell you my former employers Roland Berger Strategy Consultants are very strong in this area; and the consultancies we bumped up against most in the market were McKinsey, Bain and Sabre. Believe I'm right in saying LEK have worked on business plans for the low-cost airlines too. Lastly, some airlines - such as British Airways - have their own internal consulting teams which may be worth considering

I agree with you, RB, McKinsey, Bain and Sabre are strong in this market.

I have over 14yrs experience in airline management but unlike general consultancies, RB, bain Sabre seem rather snobish when recruiting consultants.

Try Global Freight Exchange (www.gf-x.com). It's a B2B exchange, that was started by a number of ex-Mckinsey consultants, and it deals in the airfreight industry. There are a lot of ex-Mckinsey and Accenture consultants, to name a few who have been lured there.

A.T. Kearney (BA, Airtours and others) and Amey Business Consulting (more airports and ground operations) also have experience in this area.

McKinsey are best known for their work for SwissAir Group.

Difficult times at the moment. As a former aviation consultant (icarus consulting) and aa a former pm at lufthansa, it is generally not easy for airines to get budgets to hire outside consultant, therefore not many mc firms are maintaining or even expanding their activities in the travel and transport area. almost every major consultancy has had there times in the this area. I believe that the various consultancies are good in different area within the industry. RB is know for their network activities, SABRE for CRS, McK for strategy, icarus for process design.
