1) How much salt is in the ocean?

2) How much tea is in China?

I saw them in one consulting guide and cannot figure out any easy & smart solution. Any idea?

The first one could be answered by knowing that the sea is 3.5% salt and that it's volume is = 70% (% coverage)* 3 km (average depth) * 4 * pi * 8000km (radius) * 8000km (radius)

The second one could probably be answered by 2g (weight of a tea bag) * 700 (cups per year) * 1 Billion (world tea drinkers) * 40% (China's market share) * 6/12 (months of inventory held)

Only 1 billion tea drinkers? Considering India, Pakistan AND China... even the kids drink tea there!

And Earth's radius is nearer 6500km!

But hey I am only nit-picking... procedure is sound and I guess that's what gets the tick the box!

Or you could do what I do in the real world of consulting: I google it to find out if someone else has done all the hard work for me.

1. Every gallon of sea water has about four ounces of salt in it, on average. This means that if you dried the sea out to obtain the salt in it, there would be enough salt to put a layer of the chemical around the world 147 feet thick!

2. In 1983 China produced 401,000 metric tons of tea out of a total world production of 2.06 million tons.

Why reinvent the wheel? ;-)
