Hello everyone, I would appreciate if I can have some advise as to the best way to get into consultanting (either on my own or work for a small MC firm). I have 14 years airline experience and I have worked in various areas of the business. However, I have a maximum of 2yrs experience in each area, will this be a disadvantage? Some big consultancy firms have rejected my CV. Perhaps because I am only 33yrs old or because of the airline skills. I am currently in corporate planning.

thank you

Many thanks for your message. I have tried to log into your site but there seems to be a problem (site not available),however, I will keep trying and get in touch with CBS. Once again, your feedback was much appreciated.

Hi - I started as an independent marketing consultant 18 months ago. If you would like input on how I went about setting up, email me on mail@scaramanga.uk.com.

the ululator

of quick fix merchants.

They will tell you to follow their simple guidelines and you too can be a consultant (subject to a suitable fee of course).

If you want to be an independant, compile a good list of contacts, get the trade mags from the library and write and phone until you're blue in the face (and then some).

If you want to join a going concern, same trade mags and pester the consultancies that are advertising in there, checkout jobserve.com (and this esteemed website) and hammer away, be prepared to relocate or at least travel to get your foot in the door

Totally agree with this comment - all you need to know about setting up a business is out there and mostly free. I did listen to the siren voices and they were expensive! You can get free/low cost advice all over the place. In terms of getting clients, networking is also very effective for me.
