Alv Hill

I set up as an independent last year after 10 years in the management consultancy business, the last 5 of which were with E&Y / CGE&Y where I was an Executive Consultant. My areas of specialism are manufacturing and supply chain operations – manufacturing strategy, performance improvement, and lean manufacturing system design and implementation. I have worked with many blue chip clients in the UK, Europe and beyond. Since setting up I have had some good successes, and a couple of interesting assignments. It is clear from this forum, and backed up by my own contacts, that the market is still very flat, particularly in manufacturing. I am very keen to use every avenue open to me to find and develop leads, and secure further business. To this end I would be pleased to hear from anyone who has interesting client contacts / leads that they would be happy to pass on; other independents who are interested in working with me on a joint basis on business development; or indeed anyone with any good business development ideas. Alv,

also working as an independent and indeed ex CGE&Y I empathise with your position. The market certainly is vey flat and I personally expect things to get a little worse before recovering.

I'm working in TMT and have been gainfully employed to date by a large German media group. I have been pretty successful developing new business to date by designing a new approach to the traditional consulting billing model and the work I undertake for clients.

If you think manufacturing is bad then I'm sure you will appreciate how bad TMT is right now. Firstly, I don't believe that any significant demand exists across many verticals for the kind of consulting we all used to deliver. I have approached the hiatus in the market by structuring my fees around 'risk/reward', and specialised in helping clients win new business and develop creative and innovative sales and marketing strategies.

In a business climate characterised by consolidation, cost reduction, business rationalisation, uncertainty and ever increasing competition, I feel we will all need to approach our respective client base wearing our creative hats.

I do have a considerable and growing number of contacts across many sectors and would be happy to discuss any mutual areas of cooperation.

I have a similar company background having spent 10 years in CG/CGEY colours as a Senior Consultant. I too am now working independently and working my contacts but agree that the market is flat.

I would be interested to learn more about your consultancy group. I am presently involved with a small international CEO group that has developed a unique set of strategic and organisational and management assessment tools suitable for delivery in all sectors i.e. large companies turning over in excess of £10.m, SMEs operating at between £750,000 and £10.m and public setor organisations that operate on a P&L account. They are a powerful set of modulated diagnostic and solutions tools that can accurately validate or invalidate an organisations strategy and/or accurately assess the ability of an organisation and its management teams ability to achieve forecasted performance targets 12 to 24 months in the future. The software is currently being developed by the Leeds University. I am specifically looking for independant or individual consultants who already have a have an established network of clients that could benefit from these tools and consultancy services. Footnote: I am currently in discussion with one of the Business Links in the UK who are interested in negotiating a possible licence for one of the SME diagnostic and solutions tools.
