Does an MBA from a Top school help Career Change

Hi! I am a specialist professional within the consutruction industry wanting to switch to Management Consulting / LBO. I have been working in my current area of work for 8 years.

Is changing careers after an MBA possible? If yes, do employers view such candidates positively, or do they rank them in the bottom slot.

If anyone has had or known of confirmed experiences, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Hi Nitin. In my opinion l feel degree qualifications are mandatory in all "professional" roles above those at entry-level. Now that is said, any candidate with an MBA from a good school seeking work within MC/LBO ought to be considered by recruiters. The "unresolved issue" in your case is that of making a Career Transition across distinctly different disciplines and this will require considerable skill & expertise when marketing what skills and experience you can offer potential employers. The barriers for you are not going to be focussed on your degree but moreso on your ability at selling the skills & experience you offer. Good Luck! David

Hi David. Thanks for the advice. So far in my career, I have played a key role in turning around two companies and helped one set up. Over the past four years I have been holding management level positions with the last being CEO. As you correctly stated, my career tansition would be across distinctly different disciplines but i wonder if such experience would help?
